What is the Diagnostics Process Like?
Intake
When a computer is brought in for diagnostics, we will ask you questions about what the device is doing or not doing, any symptoms leading up to the issue, and perhaps fixes or changes you have already tried. If we have some hunches on what the issue is (such as a recent Windows update causing the same issue on multiple devices), we will let you know our initial thoughts!
Data Back Up
Our diagnostics process usually starts with backing up your computer, especially if there's any sign of hard drive involvement. We can replace parts until we're blue in the face, but your data is irreplaceable!
Duration & Updates
The time it takes to complete diagnostics varies widely by what is actually wrong with your computer; we usually know within 72 business hours, but we will call you with any updates we have. Please make sure our number is not being blocked in your phone: 208-765-8324. You're also welcome to call, email, text, or stop by for diagnostic updates, as well.
What if it's hardware?
If the problem turns out to be a piece of hardware has failed, we will write you a quote for the cost of replacement. For our tech-savvy clients, you are also welcome to supply your own replacement hardware. If you would like to replace the hardware yourself, the $60 diagnostics fee covers our time to determine what has failed. If diagnostics require advanced disassembly (sometimes required for diagnosing gaming motherboards), we will call before we do anything that would trigger higher service fees.
What if it's software?
If the issue ends up being software, such as Windows or program settings, we often don't identify the issue until we've resolved it. For this reason, we may let you know that our most complicated software repairs are $149. Our flat-rate fee is based on complexity, so a software fix may run from $45-$149. If we have to clean install your Windows installation and restore files, the cost would be $185. We do try to communicate with you before completing that step, unless it's been discussed beforehand, or you're looking for a fast repair time.
